Top ten albums for 2011 with Leon

2011. A hell of a lot of great stuff came out this year, known and unknown, and I must admit I fucked up on the whole listening to everything released part. Regardless, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite ten albums of the year, in alphabetical order. Mostly it’s pretty obvious, but hey, that’s because they’re good. In any case, here’s to an even better 2012.
Top ten albums for 2011

Bon Iver – Bon Iver

For Emma, Forever Ago was such a brilliant work of music I figured his next album would …

Ten Christmas Rock Songs

If you’re into head banging rather than into Christmas softies…

When you grow up as a rocker, you’ll learn that rockers love to head bang, and also love everything that is noisy and loud. The louder, the harder, the better! In this blog post you will find ten Christmas rock songs which made history, well at least some of them. Dedicated to all those who don’t want to listen to Mariah Carey or some other horny and money making machine moaning about Christmas. We want it loud, wild and great! Please …

Coldplay at Manchester leg of Mylo Xyloto tour

Martin’s temper ‘up in flames’ at Manchester leg of Mylo Xyloto tour.

There was confusion with fans as to what had happened to Coldplay frontman’s usual polite demeanour after his repeated foul language at the M.E.N arena on their second date of their 2011 Mylo Xyloto tour. On numerous occasions Martin reacted to his paranoia of the band being, quote, “a shit Radiohead”, by using the ‘f’ word in nearly all of his crowd involvement whenever he wasn’t one hundred per cent happy with a note, a guitar – “this guitar …

Bob Dylan live at the Hammersmith Apollo 2011

Before I start this review, I should probably say I am a huge Dylan fan. This review may be biased, just a warning.
Anyway, I went to see Bob Dylan at the Hammersmith Apollo on the 21st of November with four friends, two of which had never even listened to the man (incredible to me as that is). With Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame as a warm-up act, this was looking to be a good night. Arriving extra early, on my insistence, we got very close to the stage. I …

A rant about the music industry

This is an article I’ve wrote earlier on this year; a rant about the music industry and as you most probably can notice, I am in no way encouraging piracy and free distribution of music. I am myself an original music record collector. It seems though that many article submission websites are very close to the music industry and refused to post my article. The reason? Promotion of piracy and MP3′s. Such a joke!
Music Industry should embrace technology and change
In the late 1990′s, mp3′s became widespread all over the internet …

The Vaccines – Have made it big but will they last?

One of the biggest names to have arrived on the scene in 2011 is, undoubtedly, London based band The Vaccines. Their Edgy Indie-Rock with big choruses, ethereal guitar riffs and clean, sharp lyrics took to the radio easily, also helped by their aversion to long songs -Wreckin Bar Ra Ra Ra is just under a minute and a half (the shortest song to ever feature on Jools Holland’s show). They had a success with their first album What Did You Expect from The Vaccines? which hit number 4 in the …

Robert Smith guest appearances, contributions and collaborations

Robert Smith is an English musician. He is mostly known for his lead singing, guitar playing and main song writing with The Cure rock band. Robert Smith is The Cure’s only constant member since the band’s founding, in 1976. Thanks to his very complicated and detailed guitar playing, and original use of flanging, choruses and phasic musical effects, Robert Smith is considered to be a pioneer guitarist of the New Wave and Goth music genres. Apart from being a lead singer and guitar player, Robert Smith is also able to …

Moby covers New Dawn Fades by Joy Division

A great track, written by one of the most influencial post-punk bands and covered by a great modern artist. What do you want more in life?
New dawn fades was originally written by Joy Division in 1979. It is one of those all time great songs that irrelevant how old the spng is, how many times you listen to it, it still reverberate in your soul. Two thumbs up for Moby, for being a great artist and doing such an excellent cover. The introduction of the cello also gives the song …
