Ronnie James Dio On the morning of May 16, 2010, he died after a six-month battle with stomach cancer. He was 67 years old.  He was an American heavy metal vocalist mostly known for his vocal contribution with the band Black Sabbath.  He was widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the “devil’s horns” hand gesture in metal culture.  Upon his death, Wendy Dio, his manager and wife released the following statement;

“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”

    Thank you, Ronnie, for carrying me through a difficult period in my life by taking me away to faraway lands and places with your mythology. During a period when top 40 was nothing put dance and good times, your music gave a voice to the downridden and depressed. Thank you sincerely for pulling us through difficult times. You will be missed.

    Unfortunately like many others you had to go away, but rest assured your memories and music will forever remain with us. R.I.P dear friend.

    Actually i haven’t got the real words to express my sad feelings for the loss of one of the greatest voices of rock/heavy metal. Those who knew and worked with Ronnie will surely and sorely miss him. But all is not lost because he lives in the legacy he left behind – the discs, tapes and LP’s that can be played and played again and enjoy his immaculate voice and remember him when he graced bands like Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio. Heaven and hell is the first record i listened to and discovered the power of his voice. R.I.P. Ronnie J.Dio.
