In today’s competitive music industry, many bands are trying very hard to generate that unique sound that might strike their lucky charm. In doing so, they end up having more band members than fans. Gone are the days when a band only consisted of four key people, or are they? I’d like to introduce you to New Manhattan. Coming from UK’s capital, London, New Manhattan is a raw band comprising of a singer, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. After all the influence I’ve been getting from this music …

As we’ve learnt in physics lessons at school, in nature opposites attract while likes repel. It might be the case in nature, such as magnets / magnetic fields, electrons and neutrons, men and women (aren’t they opposite or what?)! West and East, all we know about these two extremes is war, hatred, cultural differences and anything else but attraction. But like in everything else, there is always an exception to the rule. The pop electro duo Photovoltaik are the exception to the rule in this case.
In music, no questions asked, …

When I received the latest Hidden Places CD, called “Weather Station Early Works” I couldn’t place myself in the mood to listen to it. Haven’t listened to such type of music for quite some time now, so I needed some time to let it sink in. Though, as lucky as I am, exactly when I got this album, I had to travel to Italy. There was no better timing to travel to italy, to listen to Hidden Places latest music in their own soil. Hidden Places is an Italian band …

I’ve travelled all around the world. Been to the Americas a couple of times, been to every corner in Europe, and been to Asia as well. Haven’t made it yet to Australia, but hopefully will manage to go down under before I hit the box and go underground. Since most of my trips are business related (unfortunately not related to the blog and music), I travel alone. When I travel alone, I really enjoy it, but sometimes I feel lonely, sometimes happy, sometimes I’m fed fed up and with time …

An EP which starts with a song which has a chorus “if you pass me by keep walking” shouldn’t have much potential, Sir Isaac Newton would probably say. But I ask myself, what on earth would Sir Isaac know about music? I think he knew a little bit about music, because Sir Isaac was the ugly hairy chap who came up with the laws of motion. One of these laws states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So let me explain why Isaac (enough with …

The American northwest, with Seattle as the epicenter, is quite possibly the musical holy land of the United States. Hailing from these parts are massive bands such as Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana, but the northwest isn’t home to only 90′s grunge/rock bands. It is also a huge player in the folk scene with folk superstars Fleet Foxes and Blind Pilot having roots in America’s rainiest state. As of June 2010 Seattle has one more amazing folk group to add to its list, up …

I listen to music all day long and have been doing so for over 15 years. I’ve listened to more than one thousand albums, and this is not counting what is played on radios and MTV, the fast food of music. As a matter of fact I’ve gone bald. Once in a while there is a particular album that comes around as different, catchier than other and of a different level. It does not necessarily mean it is better than the others, or worse, just different, unexpected. It catches your …

When most of us think of Sweden, we think of Abba, Ace of Base, another bunch of pop groups and last but not least the Scandinavian death metal scene. There is an endless list of bands hailing from Scandinavia who are involved in death metal. If you’re not into such scene, unlike in the rest of the world, you are the outsider and not vice versa. Being from central Europe, we tend not to be exposed of what is happening in Scandinavia. Yes they are Europeans, but maybe because of …

When Anthony Weis from Axio Kick contacted me to review their EP The Disports, released in November’10, I was a bit sceptical. The first thing you will notice on Axio Kick website is a guy sitting in a bus stop with a classic guitar.
Hailing from somewhere in central US land, classical guitar, a chequered shirt (mate, that fashion is long gone!), me being afraid of western / country music, I presumed it is going to suck more than American muscle cars suck fuel. I know it is absolutely …

Have you ever spent some time alone, to cut off a little bit from the rushed up daily life? Life changed drastically in the last couple of decades and the more time passes, the less time we have to ourselves. Everyone is on the go. Smart phones and the internet made our life easier, yet tracable and reachable everywhere we are.
Once in a while, I like to spend an evening on my own, to ease the fast paced life I lead. I like to drive to …
